Design Your Own Chili
Submitted by Marilyn Brandt Smith
Football and chili go together, don’t they? It’s about that time again. Here’s a basic recipe. Texans would serve the beans separately. Kentuckians might serve the chili over spaghetti. Folks from Cincinnati add cinnamon. Lots of chili lovers crumble crackers, shred cheese, or scoop sour cream on top before digging in, so have it your way and enjoy!
Ingredients:
One and a half pounds ground beef
Two cans kidney or pinto beans
Two onions, chopped
One green pepper, chopped (optional)
One half bottle chili sauce
Two tablespoons chili powder
Three cups water or tomato juice
Salt and pepper to taste.
Directions:
Brown meat, onions, and green pepper together. Mix all ingredients in a large pot, and cook slowly, up to three or four hours on Low-Medium heat.
