Feature Writer Karen Crowder – Nosing Her Way Through the Business

In March 2011, Linda Stewart’s life changed when she joined Scentsy as a consultant.

When I spoke to Linda, her gentle warmth, knowledge, and enthusiasm captivated me. “Since childhood, I have loved fragrances, and having a business where I can demonstrate and sell them is a dream come true,” she told me. “After joining the business, the first challenge I experienced was really a matter of finding my customers,” she said. “From there, I wondered how I would independently identify products.” She quickly found a solution to the first problem and gained a customer base through friends, family, and hosting Scentsy home parties. When it comes down to it, though, Linda said, “I am happy knowing customers enjoy products which have become a part of my life.”

Linda’s two daughters and her husband who have sight have joined the business, making the process of displaying brochures and products less stressful for her. On February12, she will have her first fundraiser in her hometown of Lexington, Kentucky; it is for ITN, a new ride service for the blind. “I am not only helping a good cause, but can meet contacts and introducing them to my business,” she said.

She feels positive about being in business for herself and as she learns more about the products, she might need less help from her family. She also feels secure knowing that if she runs into difficulty placing orders, a call to Scentsy Support will solve the problem. Kathy, a member of Scentsy Support, is trained to pay attention to concerns and help any blind Scentsy consultant place orders.

I suggested that she give the corporate office the number for home readers so the spring/summer, and fall/winter catalogues will be in accessible formats for non-computer owners.

As for Scentsy itself, they really make an effort to help out the community. Linda was hoping that the attractive hero warmer with its engraved and decorative hearts would be out in February instead of March. All proceeds from the sale of this warmer go to the American Heart Association, and would also make a nice Valentine’s gift.
